New Staff for November

Murray Hills Solicitors are very happy to announce a further expansion of their staff, employing 3 new staff members in November this year alone.

The firm recruited Toni Cooper in the Bridlington office and Charlotte Bailey at the Hull office at the beginning of November 2015 both as legal secretaries to assist in the busy conveyancing departments and maintain the firm’s reputation for providing a professional, dedicated service to all its clients.

 

The firm have also recently welcomed paralegal Garry Roper to their Hull office. Managing his own caseload and clientele Garry is working alongside the current conveyancing team to provide the people of Hull with exceptional client care for their property law requirements.

Garry has worked in Conveyancing for 17 years starting as an office junior and progressing through to Legal Assistant working in all levels of conveyancing from beginning to end making him well placed to provide clients with a friendly, efficient and quality service. Garry join the Hull office to concentrate on the residential conveyancing side of law and admires Murray Hills Solicitors view of not providing a quantity conveyor belt process but delivering a quality, tailored service for all its clients. In his spare time away from the office Garry enjoys spending time with his family, trying new restaurants, attending the gym and travelling in the UK as much as abroad.

Mr Hutchinson & The Hull Marathon

As readers of our Blog, Twitter and Facebook accounts will know Mr Chris Hutchinson Director and Solicitor at our Beverley Office took part in the Hull Marathon on Sunday 13^th September to raise money and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Society. We are very happy to say that not only did Chris complete the gruelling 26.2 miles but he survived to tell the tale and here is his story in his own words:-

 

 

‘Whilst waiting calmly, if somewhat nervously, with the other 1100 runners for the race to begin, it was probably a very good thing that I could not foresee the suffering to be undergone at about mile 17 or 18 when my erstwhile trusty legs had turned to lead and I could not imagine how they were going to carry me the rest of the way to the finish line!

It was occasionally really quite hot but the heat was mitigated frequently by a welcome breeze. Although promoted as a flat race, no-one remembered to tell that to the Humber Bridge – we hit the Bridge first from the Hessle side,  at about mile 13, and it appeared  that it sloped upwards for ever. Notwithstanding that, it can’t be denied that there are outstanding views from the Bridge, nor that the rest of the race was interesting. From the Llamas in East Park and the KC Stadium in West Park there was much to grab the runners’ attention. The highlight had to be, however, the fly past by the red arrows as we were making our gruelling progress up (yes another  hill!) Boothferry Road.

 

I have to admit I was somewhat jealous of the relay runners at times when I saw them handing over to team mates; what I wouldn’t have given for a fresh set of legs!

 

The marshals were excellent; they clapped and encouraged us all the way and this was particularly appreciated towards the end of the race when every step was painful.  They also had a variety of ‘goodies’ to hand out, not just water, but jelly babies, other sweets, orange slices and bananas.

 

Despite the pain and suffering endured towards the end of the marathon, the sense of achievement (and relief!) when the finish line is at last crossed is immense.’

Jeans for Genes Day 2015

 

On Friday 18th September 2015 Murray Hills staff will be taking part in Jeans for Genes day in which they will donate £2 to wear their Jeans to work for the day.

Every year 30,000 children are born with a genetic disorder, one in 25 children are affected. Genetic Disorders UK (Jeans for Genes) help change their lives though support, equipment and opportunities to meet others like them.

Genetic Disorders UK has a vision to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by genetic disorders. There are over half a million children living with a genetic disorder in the UK today

Hull Marathon

In 2014 Chris Hutchinson, Director and Solicitor at Murray Hills, ran the London Marathon, despite vowing to never run another he recently attended a presentation by the Alzheimer’s Society and was so impressed by their dedication and passion he decided to run the Hull Marathon to raise money for them.

 

The RB Hull Marathon takes place on Sunday 13th September and takes a 26.2 mile course through Kingston Upon Hull, more information, including the route, can be found on their website http://www.thehullmarathon.co.uk/

 

Chris said “I was very impressed by the passion shown by the speakers at the event, and also by the fact that in addition to the support services they offer, one of the main aims of the charity is to fund research with a view to ultimately discovering a cure for dementia. Many of us have experience of friends or relatives who have had to deal with the problems that dementia causes for both the individual suffering the disease and the members of his or her family. Imagine the suffering that would be avoided if one day a cure is found. I think it is a great charity”

Dying Matters

 

2015 sees the sixth annual Dying Matters Awareness Week, which runs from 18 - 24 May. The aim is to get people talking about dying, death and bereavement and making plans for their end of life.

Dying is an inevitable event that none of us can avoid, but a topic most of us shy away from. As part of Dying Matters awareness week we are encouraging you to talk about dying and your end of life plans, ensure you share your wishes with loved ones and to think about what is important to you and how you wish to be cared for at the end of your life.

On 11th May Emma Long and Managing Director Keith Murray attended the Bridlington Lifeboat station and were very happy to presented them with a cheque for a total of

£1,901.19

Tour de Yorkshire

 

The Tour de Yorkshire cycling event is taking place on the 1^st May 2015 with the ceremonial start taking place at Bridlington Spa and the official start from Sewerby.

Murray Hills Solicitors have entered into the spirit of the event by decorating the office with a blue and yellow Tour de Yorkshire theme bike.

Tom, Jess & Karen are now members of the Council For Licensed Conveyancers and starting their training and courses in this field with a goal to qualifying as a Licensed Conveyancer and therefore building a strong conveyancing team based around qualified individuals with strong client care ethics.   

Additionally we are eagerly awaiting the return of Ashley Nixon, who is returning to the Will and Probate team after her maternity leave, in April.

 

Ashley is a valued member of the team and has been missed by both the department and clients alike. Ashley will be based in the Beverley office upon her return to establish a firm Will and Probate department in Beverley as well as Bridlington. As always a client’s particular needs come first and home and hospital visits can be arranged if needed.
